Hiking and the Beach

We had a four day weekend this past weekend because it was a holiday on Thursday and Friday. That meant that a lot of people traveled. I was planning on staying in Granada and making day trips to the mountain and the beach, until Lauren came along. (I do mean that in a good way!)

On Thursday Lauren and I tried to get tickets for a bull fight, however they're more expensive when you try to purchase them the day of the event....that or they were sold out of the cheap ones. We decided that 45 Euros was way to much and after finding this out at the bull ring, we headed back to Granada on bus. With nothing to do we hit up the cine (after purchasing our candy and soda to sneak in) and watched 27 Vestidos (27 dresses).

The next day, Friday, we woke up and took a random bus to a town called Dilar. We had missed the two other buses we originally wanted to take and didn't want to wait another hour. Dilar seemed like it was in the middle of no where, but it was very pretty. There were farmers out in their fields, working them by hand.

We'd stop and ask them directions to the national park (cause we kept seeing signs for it) but it was a lot further than we expected. Our stomachs took over after a while, and we headed back to the bus to eat lunch in Granada.

That afternoon Lauren, her roommate, and I took a bus to the bus station, then took another bus to a beach called Almunecar.

It's a stony beach still located in the Province of Granada, so it wasn't one of the prettiest. However, it sure was cool to be there in March. That night we ate dinner at McDonald's. I've gone there three times already during this trip, which is strange since I never eat there in the states. Spanish Lion McFlurries are amazing though and I'll miss them when I go home.

We took a taxi to an apartment owned by Lauren's host family. It was a little smelly inside but it was perfect for us. We had a view of a castle right behind us, as well as a bird park basically in our back yard. There was a little kitchen so we could hit up the grocery store to prepare food instead of ordering out.

Yaye! We made it to the beach

The next day Lauren and I went for a run and then we headed to the beach. None of the Spaniards were wearing bathing suits, only the Americans. It was probably in the 70s so it was really nice to lay out, but too cold to go in the water. The sun went behind some clouds around 1 so we went back to the apartment for lunch before we went exploring.

We went to a park near the apartment since the castle was closed for siesta. Then we headed to a lookout on rock which was really amazing. We had to climb up a path to get to it.

After, we split an order of churros with chocolate, which was yummy. At 4 we went up to the castle which had great views of the ocean.

We followed that by a trip to a Roman cave and then sat on the beach for a little while longer. It was just so great to be there. It really felt like a vacation for once. Oh! And that night we found the Little Mermaid in Spanish and watched it. I think it's been like over 10 years since I last saw it.

We headed home Sunday morning and I was really surprised to find out how warm it was in Granada. It had been 73 degrees on Sunday and Monday which was so great. However, yesterday it got really windy, and today the temperature was 48 for most of the day. I had to take out the jacket that I had just put away Sunday night....

I have to do some homework though. It turns out I have a mid term next Wednesday even though the midterm schedule we got from the secretary said that it'd be in April.... Needless to say, I'll be doing quite a bit of studying this weekend. I hope everyone is doing well! I miss you all!!!!!!!!!
