The Alhambra

On Saturday our group AIFS got to go to the Alhambra. I had been there in 2004 but it was raining back then. When I went this Saturday it was probably the most beautiful day we've had here. There wasn't a cloud in the sky, but it was a little chilly.

We went on a tour through most of the Alhambra. I loved being able to look out to the whole city of Granada.

Pieces of Spain that I'm Going to Miss

Being able to walk everywhere
Church bells on Sundays
El Parque de Garcia Lorca
Every day is a sunny day! (most of the time at least)
Everyday is dress up day
Fruit stands
Frutas del bosque yogur. Mmmm. There's just something different about the yogurt in Spain
Getting good wine for very little money
GIANT Roses that are EVERYWHERE in the park
Ham and Cheese Croquetas
Heladerias
Hiking through the towns nearby
How dogs don't need a leash but always know where their owners are
How I can randomly run into someone I know each day even though the city is so populated
La Lengua
Little kids still out past midnight - even eating ice cream cones - cause that's how their culture is
My 1 Euro Gelato shop
Paella
Pastery shops
Plazas
Rebajas
Recognizing American runners in January and February because they're the only ones wearing shorts while they run
Seeing the women riding motos with heels
Shawarmas de pollo y queso
Sitting in the park or plazas to people watch
Smelling the lilacs in the middle of my runs
Staying as long as I want at a cafe or restaurant
Tapas
That you actually get to enjoy life and don't need to rush around
The Albayzin

The different smells in the street
The girl I see on many of my runs who I wave to but have never stopped to ask her her name
The olive trees along all of the highways
The random bands playing in the streets at night
The smell of Kebab King
The smell of pansies in the park
The smell of pastery shops (I guess I have a thing for smelling stuff....)
The smell of the blooming flowers along the river and in the park. My nose is constantly bombarded by their scents
There's no need for a watch. Time is not important

Understanding everything that people say as I run past them - I am learning Spanish!
Walking around the city around 6pm
Women wearing winter jackets when it's 77 degrees becacuse the calendar says its still winter

Pieces of Spain that I Won't Miss (a much smaller list)

Even though it may reach 70 during the day it can get mighty chilly at night
Having to constantly look down to make sure I'm not going to step in dog poop
Los motos
Not being able to wear my tank top running without getting harassed.
People sneezing without covering their mouths.....
Smokers...
That the temperature inside buildings is lower than it is outdoors during the winter months
The air quality
The construction right outside our hostel that went on for wayyyy too long
The Euro and our poor exchange rate
The old women who walk painfully slow and manage to always get in your way
Tourist groups - especially with senior citizens. I can't walk anywhere on the street during weekends
Trying to run through the streets with women who like to get in your way and stare you down to let you know that they know they're in your way.
